What to expect at 2019 PRSA Colorado Summit

By: Mallory Feeney, PRSA Colorado Communications Committee Digital Strategist, Visit Aurora Marketing Coordinator

The 2019 PRSA Colorado Summit is happening Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver. The Summit is an opportunity to learn from local, national and international industry leaders, build your professional contacts and develop the skills you need for the modern era of public relations.

    Waves of Change

The only constant thing in life is change. This year’s Summit theme encourages attendees to embrace the industry changes that now impacts the way we measure success, including SEO, international relations, personal branding and social influence. This theme connects well with the conference location; the Downtown Aquarium is home to more than 500 species of fish and other sea creatures.

    Memorable Keynotes

The 2019 Summit features two different keynote speakers, Marta Newhart and Matt West. Marta, a Mexican-American CCO, has been an executive leader for nearly two decades. She will lead the morning session with a conversation revolving around diversity and inclusion. She will teach attendees useful ways to correct unrecognized biases with our clients and within the workplace. Matt, the Global Head of Training and Facilitation at Golin, will speak to attendees during the lunch session. At Golin, Matt has a creative and collaborative approach to helping individuals, teams and organizations unleash their potential. During his session, expect to learn more about culture and technology trends, leverage, relevancy and how to create an authentic experience that crosses borders.

    Breakout Sessions & Workshop

Now’s your chance to learn from the industry leaders who practice what they preach. In addition to two keynote speakers, attendees can attend a variety of sessions focused on crisis communication, ethics, content development, measurement and interpersonal interactions. Learn from leaders at Douglas County Government, DaVita, Metropolitan State University of Denver, The Boot Factory and more. Gain local insight on issues and solutions that affect everyone working in public relations at some point in their career.

New this year: Chris Perez, Western District Chair, will lead an organizational workshop on the inefficiency of meetings, appropriately named, “Death By Meeting.” This workshop will give attendees a chance to learn about the downsides of too many meetings while providing useful tools for restructuring and designing a better meeting experience.
