PRSA Colorado Members Advise CU Boulder Bateman Competition Teams

Sixteen seniors studying strategic communication at the University of Colorado, Boulder are competing in the rigorous 2022 PRSSA Bateman Case Study Competition. PRSA Colorado members Jane Dvorak, Bailey Gannett and Anna Ritz are volunteering as professional advisors to three teams. CU Alum Danielle Kraycik is the fourth advisor. Advisors started meeting with students this past fall.
“For Colorado’s students to have the opportunity to participate in the Bateman competition is a big investment in the future of our profession,” said Dvorak. “This experience will give Colorado’s future professionals a step ahead as they start their careers. Participating in opportunities like this gives our students the chance to shine, explore and grow far beyond the classroom.”
Rewarding is the word most students use to capture their Bateman experience. CU Boulder PRSSA Co-President Aidan MacAdam stated, "The Bateman Competition offers invaluable experience for PR students. It gives us experience in deeply planning and researching a campaign, and grants us the opportunity to execute our ideas in a meaningful way.”
Students conducted research and developed a strategic plan for the Lymphoma Research Foundation to raise awareness among adolescents and young adults about lymphoma, a blood cancer that impacts thousands of young adults every year in the U.S. The Paul Foundation is sponsoring this year’s competition.
From Feb. 7 – March 11, students are activating campaigns in myriad ways leveraging paid, earned, shared and owned tactics, and a $300 budget provided by CU Boulder’s Advertising, Public Relations and Design Department. Members are encouraged to follow student campaigns on social and online, and participate at several campus and Boulder community events.

After evaluating campaign efforts, students will submit a detailed summary to PRSSA on March 28. Three finalists will present their work to an esteemed panel of judges in May, and the winning teams will be recognized during the awards ceremony and dinner at PRSSA’s 2022 International Conference.
2022 marks the second year CU Boulder is competing in Bateman. Dr. Jolene Fisher and Dawn Doty, a longtime member of PRSA Colorado, are teaching this year’s two-semester Bateman class.
