PRSA Colorado Members Pay It Forward with PR for Local Nonprofits

PR Paid Forward Committee Ends Another Successful Year of Volunteer and Nonprofit Partnerships

In another year where remote work and zoom meetings are the norm, Colorado’s PR practitioners overcame the distance to form connections with nonprofits in need of communications help.

PR Paid Forward is the local chapter’s program that allows PRSA Colorado members to partner together and lend expertise to nonprofits around the Denver metro area. Nonprofits are asked to submit their most pressing PR/communications challenge, and PR pros are matched to tackle those challenges pro bono.

In 2021, 20 nonprofit organizations reached out for help, their focuses ranging from educational, health and human services, international relief, and arts and culture. Thirty-seven PRSA Colorado members stepped up to support them in the second half of the year, each bringing a myriad of skill sets including media relations, internal communications, strategy, research, and branding.

At the end of the volunteer process each year, the PR Paid Forward committee deploys surveys to both the nonprofits and volunteers to gather feedback about the experience.

“The most important takeaway was helping us think differently about messaging our mission and impact statement. Tremendous help,” one nonprofit representative said after the 2021 program.

“Keep doing what you are doing, this is a terrific pro bono service. I hope that our PR folks found satisfaction in helping us as well,” said another nonprofit participant.

The committee is looking forward to another successful year of paying it forward with PR by matching compatible PR pros with a new batch of nonprofits in need, and by ensuring that the program wraps up in time for the 2022 holiday season. Be on the lookout for nonprofit and volunteer registration opening up in June, and the program officially kicking off in July.  Learn more about the PR Paid Forward program here.
