President's Message: January 2016
Happy new year PRSA Colorado members! We hope that you have some great professional goals for 2016. It is an exciting time to be in public relations and yourPRSA Colorado leadership team has been working hard to continue to provide you with opportunities that you need to be successful.
In my first blog post of 2016, I wanted to introduce the key strategies that our board is working on this year to ensure that we continue to meet your needs. In addition, I want to update you on some current opportunities within the chapter.
The Colorado Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is one of the largest, most active chapters in the nation and we want to continue to provide our members with the best possible opportunities. In 2015, the board and sponsorship committee worked hard to finalize the 2016-2017 strategic plan. A big thank you to Julie Scott, our 2015 immediate past president, for spearheading this process. We used data from our most recent membership survey, insight from our strategic planning committee as well as insight from PRSA National to better understand member needs, establish key goals, initiatives, tactics and metrics.

Our primary focus in 2016 is to work smarter and more collaboratively towards the following goals:
- Adapt to changing needs of member needs
- Elevate the brand
- Secure/Protect financial stability
In order to do this, we are working to:
- Offer relevant programs and opportunities that align to current PR industry needs and attract broad-reaching member base.
- Inspire the PR community to understand and embrace the value of PRSA and evolve the PR industry through participation in the Colorado chapter.
- Ensure financial and operational viability to thrive and better serve our members and the PR community.
Specifically with our programming, you will start to see more variety in locations, times and topics of our professional development and networking events to allow more of our members a chance to connect with us. Our signature events, such as the Gold Pick Awards and our Fall Chapter Professional Development Summit, won’t go away. Instead, we will be introducing niche opportunities tailored to help different groups of our membership gain the resources they need. This includes our recently launched Master Practitioners Group, as well as more specific focus on other niche groups in our Colorado community that turn to us to help them grow professionally.
Be sure to stay connected with us through our website, blog, weekly e-newsletter, on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. I will be providing additional updates and insights each month through a President’s Message blog.
We have a lot of exciting things planned for 2016 and would love for you to join us.
- I will be at the January 28 networking kick-off event at Denver Beer Company. Won’t you join me to make the most of the new year with PRSA Colorado?
- Nominate someone for PRSA Colorado’s Special Awards by Jan. 29, or submit your amazing 2015 campaigns for our Gold Pick Awards before Feb. 19. Save the date for May 5 to celebrate with us.
In addition, keep your feedback and ideas coming as they always help us keep a pulse on the needs of our members. Feel free to reach out to me directly, or contact our board anytime you have an idea, suggestion or comment. Here is to a successful 2016!
Warmly,
Nicole Yost, PRSA Colorado President
