Master Practitioners: Join a Conversation About the ColoradoCare Proposal

Last fall, an ambulance pulled up to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office and delivered its “patient” — more than 150,000 signatures to put a proposal on the November ballot to create what would be the nation’s first single-payer healthcare system.

With this piece of political theater, ColoradoCareYES showed their PR savvy and fired the opening salvo in what promises to be one of the toughest and costliest ballot-initiative campaigns ever.

Getting a proposal on the state ballot can expensive. But ColoradoCareYes did it on a shoestring. How did they do it? And how do they plan to deal with the even tougher fight ahead as election day approaches?

As a long-time journalist, author, lecturer and film maker, T.R. Reid is a great storyteller. And in his role as chairman of the Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care, he’s deeply involved in the ColoradoCareYes effort. Come hear what he has to say about how they’ve gotten to where they are. And to offer your thoughts about what they might want to do next. The evening is about discussing communication strategy, not taking sides in the upcoming fight.

Have enough experience and skill to add value to the conversation? Join us from, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 18 in LinhartPR’s Baur Conference Room, 1514 Curtis Street, Suite 200. Admission is limited to the first 25 who sign up. $25 for PRSA members, $50 for nonmembers. We’re not serving food but maybe some of us will find a place afterward to grab a bite and a drink (or two). Contact Jerry Brown, APR, at  [email protected] or 303-594-8016 with questions.
