PRSA working to overturn New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics Redefinition of Public Relations
The New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) recently ruled to expand the definition of lobbying to include some public relations activities. PRSA is taking action against the JCOPE decision and currently exploring all options to have it overturned. PRSA has released a statement condemning JCOPE’s action, provided several interviews with trade publications and are working concurrently with other concerned parties in our efforts.
PRSA appreciates the feedback and offers of assistance that they have received from PRSA leaders throughout the country. The unity and support displayed is what truly unites us and makes us One PRSA. The PRSA Board of Directors will meet Saturday, Feb. 6 here in their New York City headquarters and this issue is a major agenda item. For now, PRSA asks that you help by sharing PRSA’s statement with members and local PR community and stand by for additional direction from National Board Chair, Mark McClennan, APR.
Additionally, to stay updated on media statements and coverage of the issue, please register to receive PRSA Newsroom alerts and follow PRSA on social media (primarily: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn). If you have any specific questions regarding the JCOPE advisory or would like to offer comments to PRSA regarding this situation please email the PRSA Public Relations Department.
